What causes hearing loss?
The ear is a complex structure. Sound is captured in the outer ear, transformed into mechanical energy in the middle ear, changed into nerve impulses in the inner ear and then transported to the brain. Major causes of hearing loss include exposure to loud noise, infections or diseases, medications, and aging. Untreated hearing loss can affect your ability to understand speech and can negatively impact your social and emotional well-being.
